Vlog: 5 Books that Didn't Live Up to the Hype

ANOTHER VIDEO! WOO! That means you get to see my face again and hear words coming out of it. For some of you, that's exciting. For others... well, it's not for you.

In this vlog, I'm sharing a couple of books that fell short of my expectations. For one reason or another, I couldn't get into them. I'm sure I could come up with a longer list of books that failed to hook me, but this is a great start.

Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any suggestions for future videos!

  1. I really enjoyed this video! You've really improved in your video style, and I love it! :D

I agree with you on everything except Tale of Two Cities. I personally love the book, although I agree that it's a *very* slow burn. Except for the final third, the book can really drag, but when everything comes together at the end, it's truly excellent. Also, the ending shouldn't make you furious...it was sad and moving. But, we can disagree on that.

Love your videos, keep them coming!

    1. Thank you! I'm glad you can see an improvement! :)

I might try to reread AToTC at some point in the future. I was so young when I read it. Who knows? Maybe I'll like it now.

  2. My wife and I cracked up when you said "50 Shades of Gray" was only liked by "perverted mommies." That's the vibe I've gotten from most of the fans, and listening them try to defend it outside of "It got me going" is often unintentionally hilarious (though that leads into my stronger opinions about erotica that I won't get into here).

Also, I tried reading "Twilight" some time ago, and yeah, I was amazed it got so popular. There are typos that I might expect in an Indie publication, but not in a book printed by a legitimate publisher. Also, Edward was downright creepy. There's one scene where he suddenly gets aggressive, forcing Bella into a car and ORDERING her to ride with him (yeah, try doing that to a teenage girl in a school parking lot - see what happens). Much as I hate to say it...the movie actually did a BETTER job making Edward a likeable character. What movie and book both did a terrible job doing was make Bella a relateable character. Reading the book, I seriously did not like her, did not understand how she got certain emotions or understandings, and...yeah. I was reminded of that Mark Twain quote about how a good writer makes you love the heroes and hate the villains, and a bad writer will make you wish everyone had drowned by the third chapter. That's how I felt with "Twilight."

Also, don't be fooled by trailers. "Pearl Harbor" and "Noah" are two examples of terrible movies which had awesome trailers. Trailers are meant to get you to want to see a movie, but they're not always reflective of how good the movie itself is going to be.

    1. You showed my video to your wife? I'm honored. Both of you laughed? Heck, I'm elated!

TWILIGHT is just awful. Really. The only good thing about that series is that it got a lot of people reading. That's how I feel with 50 SHADES, too, to some extent. Except 50 SHADES is erotica, and lacks more plot than TWILIGHT. I digress.

You have a point on the movie trailer front. I'll have to proceed with caution.

Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
